Ethiopian expands to Mauritius

ADDIS ABABA – ETHIOPIAN Airlines has launched a new passenger service to Mauritius as it expands its African network and strengthens connectivity between the island nation and destinations across the globe.

The new route commenced operations on Sunday and will operate three times a week, linking Mauritius to the airline’s hub in Addis Ababa and its extensive international network.

The airline said the service formed part of its strategy to strengthen air transport links across Africa while providing seamless connections between the continent and key destinations in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.

Mauritius, renowned for its tourism industry, cultural heritage and growing economy, is regarded as a strategic addition to Ethiopian Airlines’ African route network.

The direct connection between Addis Ababa and Mauritius is expected to enhance convenience for travellers while promoting trade, tourism and stronger people-to-people relations between Ethiopia and Mauritius.

Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew said the new route reflected the airline’s commitment to expanding connectivity across Africa.

“Mauritius is a destination of remarkable beauty, rich culture and growing economic importance,” Tasew said.

“By establishing a direct link between the country and our vast global network, we are pleased to offer convenient travel options to our passengers while bringing the world closer to Mauritius.”

He said, as a Pan-African airline, Ethiopian Airlines would continue to serve as a catalyst for stronger air connectivity between Africa and the rest of the world.

Passengers travelling on the new route will have access to the airline’s modern fleet and onward connections through Addis Ababa to destinations across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.

The launch forms part of Ethiopian Airlines’ broader expansion strategy aimed at growing its route network while contributing to the development of air transport, tourism and economic integration across the African continent.

Ethiopian Airlines currently operates flights to more than 160 passenger and cargo destinations across five continents and has established itself as one of Africa’s largest airlines.

The carrier, a member of the Star Alliance, has received several international awards, including multiple Skytrax honours as Africa’s leading airline.
