CAPE TOWN – TURKISH aviation technology company BeSky is exploring opportunities in South Africa as it seeks to expand its international footprint in private jet charter services and luxury travel.
The company is developing a digital platform that combines private aviation bookings and discounted Empty Leg flights with premium accommodation, chauffeur-driven transport, fine dining and personalised concierge services.
BeSky founder Kadir Çankaya said South Africa was an important market to explore, citing Johannesburg’s corporate and financial sectors and Cape Town’s international tourism and luxury hospitality industries.
“South Africa holds a special place in our international vision. We see the country as much more than another destination on a global flight map,” Çankaya said.
He said the company wanted to establish meaningful relationships with South African aviation operators, hospitality providers, entrepreneurs and potential business partners.
BeSky’s strategy extends beyond booking private aircraft to coordinating travellers’ journeys, from airport transfers and accommodation to restaurant reservations and tailored experiences.
“We don’t just fly you. We want to take care of your entire journey,” Çankaya said.
The company also aims to facilitate personal security arrangements through qualified local providers where requested and legally permitted.
A central feature of BeSky’s offering is its focus on Empty Leg flights. These occur when private aircraft must reposition for another assignment or return to base without paying passengers.
By connecting travellers with available repositioning flights, the platform aims to improve aircraft utilisation and offer potentially more affordable private aviation options.
However, availability and prices depend on aircraft schedules, operators and routes.
BeSky is also developing its Lifestyle & Concierge concept, which seeks to bring premium travel services together through a connected digital experience.
These services could include luxury hotel and private villa bookings, VIP transfers, entertainment arrangements and personalised assistance.
The company said its international expansion strategy would depend on local partnerships, service availability and compliance with applicable regulations.
South Africa’s established aviation infrastructure, business travel demand and internationally recognised tourism destinations could offer opportunities for such a model.
Johannesburg serves as a major commercial gateway, while Cape Town attracts international visitors with its coastline, mountain scenery, hospitality offerings and premium tourism experiences.
However, BeSky has not announced the launch of local flight operations or confirmed any commercial partnerships in South Africa.
The company is continuing to develop its technology infrastructure and explore relationships with aircraft owners, aviation operators and financial partners as it assesses potential international markets.
Its longer-term ambition is to build an international ecosystem connecting private aviation with personalised lifestyle services, positioning Türkiye as the platform’s home base.
For South Africa, any future entry could create opportunities for local aviation businesses, hospitality providers, transport operators and concierge companies, provided partnerships materialise and generate sustained commercial activity.
BeSky’s proposed expansion reflects the wider evolution of premium travel, where customers increasingly seek convenience, coordinated services and greater control over their journeys.
