GWANDA – ZIMBABWE’S aviation sector is celebrating one of its own after Captain Merna Cremer achieved a significant career milestone by taking command of an Emirates Boeing 777-300, becoming an inspiring symbol of excellence for aspiring aviators across the country.
Captain Cremer’s achievement marks the culmination of a distinguished aviation career spanning more than a decade.
She served as a pilot with Air Zimbabwe for 10 years, from 2008 to 2018, before joining Emirates, one of the world’s leading international airlines, where she has continued to build an impressive career.
Her appointment to command the Boeing 777-300—one of the world’s largest and most technologically advanced long-haul aircraft—has been widely celebrated in Zimbabwe, with many describing her success as a powerful example of the country’s aviation talent earning global recognition.
Her accomplishment has also resonated strongly with young women and girls aspiring to careers in aviation, demonstrating that the flight deck is no longer the preserve of men and that determination, skill and opportunity can open doors to the highest levels of the profession.
