Air Congo makes landmark flight to South Africa

by JEAN KASSONGO
KINSHASA – AIR Congo has commenced international flights, with South Africa as its latest destination.

The flag carrier airline of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), launched at the end of 2024, touched down at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.

Management of the iconic airport, the busiest in Africa, said, guided by the airline’s vision, “L’espoir de l’Afrique” (Hope for Africa), this milestone will strengthen connectivity between South Africa and the DRC, supporting greater opportunities for travel, trade and tourism across the region.

“We look forward to a strong and successful partnership,” the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) stated.

Air Congo is jointly owned by the DRC government and Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest operator.

Other targeted international destinations are Benin, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda.
