Ethiopian Airlines adds Nacala to Mozambique network

by ARMANDO DOMINGOS
MAPUTO – ETHIOPIAN Airlines will expand its presence in Mozambique with the launch of a new passenger service to Nacala from 27 October 2026.

The Addis Ababa-based carrier will operate three flights a week to Nacala, making the northern Mozambican city its third destination in the country after Maputo and Beira.

The service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays using Boeing 737-8 aircraft.

Flights will depart Addis Ababa at 09:20 and travel via Blantyre, Malawi, before continuing to Nacala. The return service will depart Nacala at 15:10 and arrive in Addis Ababa at 20:05.

Ethiopian Airlines Group chief executive Mesfin Tasew said the new route would strengthen links between Ethiopia and Mozambique while connecting Nacala to the airline’s wider international network.

“As a pan-African airline, expanding our presence in Mozambique with a third destination is truly a proud moment for us,” Tasew said.

He added that the service would help address connectivity gaps across Africa and support links between the continent and the rest of the world.

Nacala is an important centre for trade and tourism in northern Mozambique.

The new air link is expected to provide an additional connection for business and leisure travellers while strengthening the city’s links with Ethiopian Airlines’ wider network.

The airline said the route would also support trade, tourism and economic integration between African markets.

Ethiopian Airlines currently serves more than 160 domestic and international passenger and cargo destinations across five continents.

It says its African network includes more than 65 destinations.

The carrier operates a fleet that includes Boeing 737, 777 and 787 aircraft, as well as Airbus A350s and De Havilland Q400s.

The Nacala service forms part of Ethiopian Airlines’ broader expansion across Africa, alongside its multi-hub strategy involving partner airlines in Togo, Malawi, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
