JOHANNESBURG – OMODA South Africa has expanded its local vehicle range with the introduction of the new C5 SHS hybrid, marking a significant step in the brand’s electrification journey.
As the first conventional hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) from OMODA & JAECOO in the country, the model combines efficiency, performance and premium features in a single package.
At the heart of the C5 SHS is a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 165 kW and 295 N.m of torque.
This powertrain enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds, while reaching a top speed of 175 km/h.
Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), engineered to optimise efficiency and ensure smooth driving dynamics.
The model achieves a WLTP-rated fuel consumption of 4.9 litres per 100 km and emits 111 g/km of CO₂. Equipped with a 1.83 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a 51-litre fuel tank, the C5 SHS offers a driving range exceeding 1,000 kilometres.
The vehicle maintains the distinctive styling of the C5 range, complemented by LED lighting, a sunroof and 18-inch alloy wheels with red brake calipers.
Its suspension setup, comprising MacPherson struts at the front and a multilink system at the rear, provides a balance between comfort and handling.
Inside, the C5 SHS features a refined cabin layout with a symmetrical dashboard and a bridge-style centre console. Dual 12.3-inch screens provide access to infotainment and vehicle controls, supporting Bluetooth connectivity, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
An eight-speaker Sony sound system, intelligent voice command and multi-colour ambient lighting enhance the in-car experience.
Comfort is prioritised with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control and rear air vents.
Practical features include a power-operated boot lid, wireless charging, keyless entry and flexible storage space expanding from 372 to 1,072 litres.
Safety remains central, with a five-star Euro NCAP rating supported by seven airbags, stability control and advanced driver assistance systems such as blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist and a 360-degree camera.
The C5 SHS is priced at R469,900 at launch, increasing to R479,900, and will be available from 8 April 2026.
